Carpenter Auntz believes everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a supportive travel & living community. Our team of volunteers helps nomad vehicle dwellers enhance their vehicles through carpentry, solar power, and mechanical assistance.
Building community and self-sufficiency
Through education, fellowship, and shared knowledge, we build a community where people can gain practical skills, find support, and thrive on their journey. Each "van build" comes with its own volunteers all with individual skills. If you have a need, we will try to get someone who can help you during a time when work is happening. (Generally January - February each year).
In the future, we hope to have multiple build sessions in different areas of Arizona as well as other parts of the country as Carpenter Auntz grows.
Our services
We offer a range of services to support vehicle dwelling nomads no matter where you are from! We are happy to help you get settled in your vehicle if you'll meet us at one of our sessions. We currently build things out during the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, (run by Homes on Wheels Alliance), Schoolie Paloosa and a month of Van Aid out in the Quartzsite / Yuma areas of Arizona. If you aren't from, or can't make it to Arizona in the winter time (generally January & February), tell us where you are and we will see what we can do.
Carpentry solutions
Custom carpentry to make your vehicle more functional and comfortable, from a bed platform to storage solutions, kitchen sinks to bird cage platforms.
The type of car, van, bus, truck or whatever you have doesn't matter. We've built out a Prius, a Kia Soul, Nissan Mini-vans, Chevy Equinox, shuttle busses, huge school busses, ambulances, you name it, we've built it!
Our priority is getting everyone a bed, a flat place to sleep, then we can help with other items, like storage boxes, cabinets, battery storage and other items one might need in their vehicles. We even build out kitchen sinks!
Solar power integration
Though we can't give you the solar power and battery storage you need, we can help you get it installed properly and in order. If you can't afford to purchase these items, there are a few resources we may be able to tap into. Please don't let cost keep you from inquiring.
How much power you need depends on what you do and how you live and WHERE you live. If you are able to travel around chasing the 70 degree weather, chances are you may need a fan, but not an air conditioner. You won't need so much power. But if you need to run an AC or Heater, you'll need a lot of power and lots of solar power on top. If all you need is to charge a laptop, phone, ipad and/or run a 12 volt fridge, you also won't need too much power as those are fairly easy to get power as long as you can be in a place with sunshine.
Mechanical assistance
This is not our specialty, but we have many friends! Many of our volunteers can help diagnose problems and advise you on repairs. Some repairs can be done at one of our builds, depending on what needs to be done. When we work on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Land, we can't change fluids (oil, transmission, radiator, etc.) due to BLM restrictions, but we can change brakes, and service many other things. We generally have a wide variety of mechanical team members at each van-build session.
